Legislative Alert - Bill 4738
A public hearing will
be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 one hour after the House
adjourns in the Blatt Building, Room 516 (this should be
approximately 1:00 pm). The proposed legislation involves
restructuring several state agencies. In summary, the bills propose
the Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN) H-4738,
Department of Natural Resources H-4736, and the Department of Mental
Health H4737 be restructured from governing commissions to cabinet
agencies.

Many of you have brought to our
attention concerns about this legislation and the potential impact
it could have on agencies in the service system. We encourage all
of you to join the various disability agencies attending this public
hearing to voice those concerns. Advocacy is essential in
maintaining or improving the quality of life for people with mental
retardation and related developmental disabilities.
