Person-centered planning (PCP) lies at the heart of our agency's values. PCP is driven by the philosophy that individuals make their own choices about how they live their lives. PCP assists us to listen to people with disabilities [and their families] to identify what they need and should have for an opportunity to experience fulfillment in their lives. We believe that lives are enriched by services that provide advocacy and support according to an individual’s strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences. These beliefs are stated in more detail in our Mission Statement and Core Values statement (attached). The ARC of SC continues to emphasize community integration, person-centered planning, circles of support and self-determination. It is the organization’s goal to assist all individuals with special needs to achieve recognition and acceptance as valued members of their communities.
The ARC of SC believes in the value of community and in the inherent rights of all people to actively participate in the life of their home communities. We strive to provide a variety of annual events and scheduled activities within the community that offer recreational, educational, and cultural experiences for individuals with developmental disabilities. All of our seasonal parties/dances have community sponsors/involvement.
